The Scoop on High School

8th - 12th Grade

EMPOWERING ALL LEARNERS: ACCOMMODATE, ACCELERATE, ACHIEVE

All of our high school programs ensure students receive all the core courses and required electives to build a transcript that will help them reach their post high school goals. We ensure students get what they need by carefully tracking coursework, credits, and academic standards to align with Georgia Department of Education requirements. We maintain detailed student records, offer guidance on course selection, and help students build their choice of DOE, TCSG, and/or USG-ready transcripts to support a smooth transition to college, career, or other postsecondary pathways. Our structured systems balance flexibility with accountability, keeping students on track for graduation while meeting all necessary state and academic benchmarks. Students in our learning support program will receive support, accommodations and/or modifications to standard curriculum as needed.

High School 8th - 12th

*Satisfies GA DOE Requirements ** Satisfies RHSC Requirements

Which Program Is Your Best Fit?

When selecting your "best fit" program, it's important to understand that while high school course offerings are generally consistent across all programs, there are significant differences in content depth and workload expectations. Weatherstone Academy is geared to students who want or need an "essentials" approach that offers both accommodations and acceleration options, while LEAP Academics and Arts is geared to astute, academically-inclined students seeking a more robust "deep inquiry" experience with a creative flair.

State Diploma Requirements

Per the GHEA, "The State of Georgia requires public school students to accumulate a minimum of 23 credit units in order to be awarded a high school diploma. Homeschool students are NOT required to comply with this requirement. The homeschool parent decides how many credits are required for their child to graduate."

Students desiring a transcript equivalent to public/private school peers should consider following the DOE and/or College System of Georgia requirements.

Our accredited transcript option follows the DOE/TCSG requirements.

University-bound students should must follow the RHSC standards to ensure they meet the more rigorous admissions requirements needed to attend a 4-year university. Students desiring a top-tier school should also plan to take at least 5 - 12 rigor courses (honors, AP, Dual Enrollment) to ensure a competitive transcript.

Accredited Transcript vs. Homeschool Transcript?

Accredited Transcript

Families may select an accredited or homeschool transcript option.

We are pleased to offer an accredited transcript and diploma option! An accredited transcript requires students complete a specific number of credits in defined subject areas. Students who participate in the accredited transcript option will be required to assemble a portfolio of required coursework, documenting the work and progress through the year. Coursework applied to the accredited transcript must be graded and each grade is built into the student's GPA. Upon request, credits taken outside of our program may also qualify towards your transcript with a pre-approved syllabus and submission of portfolio coursework.

Does my child need an accredited transcript?

It is important to realize that an accredited transcript is not necessary in most cases, however, it does offer some benefits including immediate access to the HOPE scholarship upon graduation, direct (no-test) placement into college courses, access to international universities that do not recognize homeschool transcripts, possible scholarship opportunities, and to validate the efforts of your student. An accredited transcript is a great option for students wanting to go straight to college and/or those who wish to study abroad.

Exception: While accredited courses are accepted at the college and university levels, public high schools are not required to accept transfer credits. If your child is hoping to transfer to a public school mid-stream, you will want to discuss transfer policies with your specific public school or district.

Can my child receive accommodations and still receive an accredited transcript? YES!

We are able to modify your student's programming, workload, and expectations in any class. Please call the director to discuss this option.

Homeschool Transcript

Families may select an accredited or homeschool transcript option.

Homeschool diplomas and transcripts are legal documents. Homeschool diplomas are recognized by most colleges and universities, trades, the military, etc. Homeschoolers are eligible for dual enrollment funding as well as accessing HOPE/Zell scholarships, though there are some stipulations.

Per the GHEA, "The State of Georgia requires public school students to accumulate a minimum of 23 credit units in order to be awarded a high school diploma. Homeschool students are NOT required to comply with this requirement. The homeschool parent decides how many credits are required for their child to graduate." That being said, many homeschool families opt to participate in the 23 credit requirement. Students wishing to advance to post-high school educational institutions should consider following, at minimum, the state's graduation requirements and verifying admissions requirements as this will help streamline entry into advanced programs.

Does my child have to complete the standard credit requirements to graduate?

A homeschool diploma is the most flexible option for students desiring a modified or curated educational experience. Students in our Academic Bridge Program will receive instruction that meets them where they are academically, offering support, accommodations, and/or alternative courses that support their needs and cater to their strengths. For instance, students struggling with standard math courses will be offered a curated 4-year math track.

Our High School Programming

We offer, at minimum, all courses needed to satisfy both a general high school diploma AND Georgia's Required High School Curriculum for entrance into a USG university. Eight grade students may participate in high school courses, but must complete all required coursework to earn credit. Students may opt to substitute alternative courses through independent study (text book or online format) provided they are capable of working independently while peers and teachers are in class.

Our Courses & Elective Offerings

We strive to offer all core courses and necessary electives to satisfy the Georgia Department of Education's high school graduation requirements to ensure students in all tracks receive the necessary coursework to meet their goals. Students attending our academic programs will receive instruction in the core courses, along with a selection of specific elective courses that cover Georgia's "additional requirements," including languages, fine arts, career development, health, and personal fitness. Students attending the Friday Electives option will have the opportunity to accrue additional elective credits which they can put toward their transcript. For students opting for the accredited transcript, additional credits may be taken outside of our program and applied to their transcript with appropriate documentation.

As a small program, we are only able to offer a select number of courses per year. With the exception of math, most of our courses are offered on a 2-4 year cycle and can be taken in the order they are presented. For instance, students may take Earth Science before Biology or Local Studies before US History. Since content in each of our disciplinary courses is unique, the order in which a course is taken inconsequential. Electives selections will vary each year.

Our program offers courses that meet GA DOE graduation, College System of Georgia requirements, and the Required High School Curriculum for USG admissions. Students attending our 4-day program (3 hybrid days + Fridays) for four years will have access to complete all required courses, academic electives, and general interest options to meet the 23 credit requirements. Students attending our hybrid option will have access to all core courses, but may need to supplement with academic and general interest elective to ensure a graduation-ready transcript. Students are also welcome to apply outside courses (with proof of completion) and Dual Enrollment courses to their transcript. While there are no official requirements for a homeschool transcript, college-bound students and/or those desiring an accredited diploma should complete, at minimum, the courses listed below.

Our unique 5 year high school track (open to astute & motivated 8th graders) provides students with an engaging learning environment where they can collaborate with peers who are both chronologically, developmentally, and academically aligned. Our Standard Track provides a springboard for gaining academic momentum and taking classes that both challenge and excite, while our Learning Support Track offers academic scaling to meet individual learning needs across all subjects. Through a combination of interactive instruction, independent work, and hands-on projects, students build critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, our program fosters social development and leadership opportunities, helping students transition smoothly into higher academic levels with confidence. Breaks and built-in social time allow students to recover from directed-attention fatigue and also boosts a sense of connectedness and community as students enjoy time together! Friday electives provide a platform for students in all models and tracks to earn elective credits and/or enjoy a selection of academic and interest-based classes.

Just as in our middle school, courses are delivered in two formats: Sequential (skills build from one course to the next) and Cyclical (content is unique from year to year and can be taken in any order). This flexible structure ensures that all students receive standards-aligned content in disciplinary subjects such as English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies over the course of the high school years, while also allowing for personalized instruction in skill-based subjects such as math and structured literacy (reading, spelling, grammar, etc.). By working at their appropriate challenge level, students build confidence, strengthen their understanding, and achieve their academic goals in a supportive and engaging learning environment.
